Terms of Use
Last updated: 19 October 2026
The short version
- CrocoDiary is a calorie and macro tracker. It is not medical advice, and AI estimates can be wrong.
- The core app is free. Premium is a monthly or annual subscription through Google Play or Apple's App Store, with a free trial for new subscribers, that renews automatically until you cancel.
- Your diary is yours. Please use the app fairly.
- Your legal rights as a UK consumer are not affected.
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you use the CrocoDiary – Calorie and Macro Tracker app ("CrocoDiary", "the app"), made by James Pearce ("we", "us"), contactable at support@crocodiary.app (our postal address is shown on our Google Play and App Store listings, or is available on request by email). By using the app you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle data.
The terms of the store you got the app from also apply to downloading it and buying a subscription: Google Play's terms on Android, or on iPhone Apple's Media Services Terms and its Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If anything in these terms conflicts with Apple's licence agreement for an app downloaded from the App Store, Apple's licence agreement applies for that conflict.
2. Who can use CrocoDiary
You must be at least 18 years old to use CrocoDiary.
3. Health information – please read
- CrocoDiary helps you record food, exercise and weight. It is not a medical device and does not give medical, dietary or nutritional advice. Calorie targets, maintenance estimates and weight projections are general estimates based on standard formulas and what you log.
- Nutrition information may be inaccurate. Food database entries come from third parties (including user-contributed Open Food Facts data), and AI estimates from photos or descriptions are approximate and can be wrong. Check labels where it matters, especially for allergies.
- Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before making big changes to your diet or exercise, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, or take medication.
- Calorie tracking is not suitable for everyone. If you have, or have had, an eating disorder, or if tracking makes you feel anxious about food, please don't use the app without professional support. In the UK, the eating disorder charity Beat offers free helplines: Scotland 0808 801 0432, England 0808 801 0677, Wales 0808 801 0433, Northern Ireland 0808 801 0434.
4. Your licence to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use CrocoDiary on Android devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You may not copy, modify, resell or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it.
5. CrocoDiary Premium
- Premium unlocks AI meal logging (from a photo or a description). It is a monthly or annual subscription, bought and billed through Google Play (Android) or Apple's App Store (iPhone) at the price shown in the app before you buy. Below, "your store" means whichever of these you bought it from. A subscription bought on one doesn't unlock Premium on the other.
- Free trial: new subscribers may be offered a free trial (currently 7 days). If you cancel before the trial ends, you won't be charged. If you don't, your store charges you for the plan you chose when the trial ends. On the App Store, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Free trials are one per person.
- It renews automatically each month or year (the plan you chose), and your store charges you, unless you cancel before the renewal date. On the App Store, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before it ends.
- To cancel: on Android, open the Google Play Store → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → CrocoDiary → Cancel. On iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → CrocoDiary → Cancel Subscription. You keep Premium until the end of the month or year you've paid for. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Refunds are handled by your store under its refund policies (for the App Store, at reportaproblem.apple.com). This doesn't affect your statutory rights; if something has gone wrong, contact us and we'll try to put it right.
- If the price changes, your store will tell you in advance, and you can cancel before it applies.
- Fair use: AI meal logging is for your own meals and is subject to a reasonable daily limit, shown in the app if you reach it, to keep the service affordable for everyone.
- The AI feature needs an internet connection and depends on third-party services. We'll do our best to keep it running, but can't promise it will always be available or error-free.
6. Using the app fairly
Please don't:
- send anything other than food photos and meal descriptions to the AI feature, or anything illegal, offensive or that you don't have the right to share;
- try to get around the subscription, the usage limits or security, or overload, scrape or reverse-engineer our server;
- use our server or the AI feature to power another app or service.
We may suspend access to the AI feature if it is being misused.
7. Your data and content
What you log in CrocoDiary belongs to you and is stored on your device (see the Privacy Policy). When you send a photo or description for an AI estimate, you allow us and our service providers to process it only to give you that estimate. You are responsible for keeping backups; the app offers several ways to do this, but we can't recover data that was only on a lost, reset or broken phone.
8. Food data from others
Food information comes partly from Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL), and from USDA FoodData Central (public domain). We don't control these sources and aren't responsible for their accuracy.
9. Changes to the app and these terms
We may update the app to add, change or remove features, fix problems or meet legal requirements. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the changes apply. If you don't agree, you can stop using the app and cancel your subscription.
10. Our responsibility to you
- As a consumer, you have legal rights under UK law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015: digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.
- We are not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, for business losses, or for decisions you make based on estimates in the app (see section 3).
- Apart from that, if we are responsible for a loss, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us for Premium in the 12 months before the problem.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
11. Ending these terms
You can stop using CrocoDiary at any time by uninstalling it (and cancelling Premium in Google Play or the App Store). We may stop offering the app or the AI feature. If we stop the AI feature permanently while you have a paid subscription, we'll give you a pro-rata refund for the unused time.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. Please contact us first – most problems can be sorted out quickly by email.
